Cybersecurity Pre-Apprenticeship Program

About The Program

The Cybersecurity Pre-Apprenticeship is a 9- week self study and instructor led in which candidates are provided content and materials to assist in learning the basics of cybersecurity to successfully pass the CompTIA Security+ certification. Candidates will also be extended opportunities for the following:

Develop knowledge and skills to become an entry-level cybersecurity professional

Have an opportunity to earn an industry-recognized information technology certification: CompTIA Security+

Access to support services like resume writing, career coaching, and discounted laptops

Gain access to mentorship provided by IQ4

Licensure / Certification – although not required for employment, CompTIA IT Security+ certification reflects the competency learned and skills obtained through this training and provides an advantage when seeking employment.

Course Goals

Develop the basic skill, ability to perform skills, and knowledge base necessary to apply the principles or competencies performed in the cybersecurity industry.

Develop attitudes consistent with those expected of an individual working in the cybersecurity industry and society in general

Prepare students for success in an entry-level cybersecurity career path.

Assess the security posture of an enterprise environment and recommend and implement appropriate security solutions

Monitor and secure hybrid environments, including cloud, mobile, and IoT

Operate with an awareness of applicable laws and policies, including principles of governance, risk, and compliance

Program Requirements

Candidates must meet or complete the following requirements to be eligible to participate in the program Be qualified as:

  • A racial minority, military veteran, woman, or parent

  • Reside in a disadvantaged or underserved community 

  • Successfully complete the computer literacy assessments proctored by InspirEdu

  • Register for the CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ 30 Day Challenge 

  • Complete onboarding at Westside Works before first day of class

Mandatory Training Sessions

Each Diversity Cyber Council Training Program will include the following mandatory training sessions which may be attended virtually or physically depending on the program attended.

  • Instructor-Led Sessions – Fridays 6pm – 8pm EST

  • Accountability Huddle Sessions – Tuesday 6pm – 8pm EST

  • Leadership Huddle Sessions – Wednesdays 6pm – 7pm EST

  • Mentoring Sessions – Scheduled directly with mentor
